Just slight price increase for doctor services: 20 years since CPI rise ws this low

Article Abstract:

Economists with the Bureau of Labor Statistics say that physician service prices increased only 4.4% in 1994, which is the smallest increase since 1973. The Bureau economists say that the prices remained low in 1994 due to a low inflation rate which kept prices of supplies and equipment fairly stable. Therefore, physicians were not justified in raising their income through price hikes to patients. The health care reform debate may also have contributed to the moderate increase in 1994.

Everyone has 'dog-days' of despair - but they do pass

Article Abstract:

Physicians should try to remember why it was that they decided to become doctors when things get tough. Many wanted to focus on patient care, and if they remember this, darker days dealing with managed care and the related problems that many physicians seem to have with the system do not seem so gloomy. Income has decreased since managed care has become popular, but if a physician remembers his or her patients, income problems become less prominent.
