Four new antiretroviral drugs have been approved for the treatment of AIDS, including Saquinavir, which is one of three approved protease inhibitors. However, medication costs have skyrocketed, leaving over 50% of those with AIDS depending on drug industry programs or public health programs. AIDS therapy can run as high as $18,000 wholesale, while a year's worth of a protease inhibitor costs approximately $5,560.
