Letter from Yekaterinburg

Article Abstract:

Highlights and impressions of a conference held in Yekaterinburg, Russia on emergencies in internal medicine are presented. Researchers, mostly older males, presented the results of studies on diabetes, high blood pressure, laser irradiation, and antioxidant therapy. Some of the most pressing conditions including AIDS and alcoholism were discussed only briefly or not at all. Despite communication advances among health professionals in Russia, financial and social barriers to sharing their results publicly and implementing new techniques still exist.
