Lines blurred between cause marketing, product endorsements

Article Abstract:

Medical associations should consider the possible repercussions before they decide to enter into an alliance with a corporate partner. The advantages of such partnerships include the ability to obtain needed financing to meet goals such as providing member services and promoting health messages. However, such access to financing can sometimes come with the price of the association's reputation if the alliance is not chosen wisely.

The American Medical Assn has found international involvement to be important since 1874. International activities have expanded as communications and travel advances have grown. The association was a founding member of the World Medical Assn after World War II. International priorities were established by the association's board of trustees in 1997.
