Long-term efficacy and safety of atazanavir with stavudine and lamivudine in patients previously treated with nelfinavir or atazanavir

Article Abstract:

The long-term safety, efficacy, and tolerability of atazanavir plus stavudine/lamivudine were studied in 346 HIV-infected patients who were previously treated with atazanavir or nelfinavir. Atazanavir was found to be safe, tolerant, and effective during extended use by patients who had switched over from nelfinavir.

High prevalence of sub therapeutic plasma concentrations of efavirenz in children

Article Abstract:

Efavirenz plasma concentrations were evaluated in South African HIV-infected children receiving efavirenz based antiretroviral treatment. The findings indicate that many children dosed according to the current guidelines do not achieve adequate efavirenz exposure.

Risk factors for developing tuberculosis in HIV-1-infected adults from communities with a low or very high incidence of tuberculosis

Article Abstract:

HIV patients who are in the advanced stages of the disease have a high risk of contracting tuberculosis, especially if they live in an area where tuberculosis is common. This was the conclusion of a study done in Cape Town, South Africa.
