Love and competition: by never letting me win the race, my mom helped us to connect

Article Abstract:

A daughter learned from her mother that competition need not always be adversarial, but can be a good way to build a bond. She and her mother always competed against each other in swimming, but not once did her mother faked it and allowed her to win. Her mother's attitude toward competition inspired her to set goals and look for new challenges.
