Article Abstract:

Physicians ought to become aware of the particular health problems of Chinese infants because their numbers are increasing as more are adopted in the U.S. Adoptees often suffer from disease, parasites, developmental disabilities, problems caused by prolonged stays at orphanages, and a lack of preventative care. Early diagnosis and care, including antibiotics and cognitive therapy, is recommended.

Family violence law wins praise from medicine, enforcers

Article Abstract:

US Attorney General Janet Reno testified, in May 1996, that the Violence Against Women Act is helping overcome domestic abuse of women. Reno cited the case of an Ohio man who beat his girlfriend, then drove her 150 miles into Pennsylvania to a hospital. Federal authorities were able to prosecute where several jurisdictional questions arose for state authorities.
