Management and effects of parenteral nutrition

Article Abstract:

Parenteral nutrition, known as intravenous nutrition (IVN) is needed when the intestine cannot be used or cannot absorb or digest adequate amounts of nutrients. Parentenal nutrition is a safe, effective and life-saving therapy if monitored and managed appropriately with a multidisciplinary approach, covering all aspects like administration, preparation of the patient, monitoring and long-term management of the central venous device, which are essential in minimizing the risk of complications.

A nurse-led gynecology emergency assessment service

Article Abstract:

A nurse-led gynecology emergency assessment unit (GEAU) was established at Staffordshire General Hospital in 2002 since an increasing number of women were referred to the gynecology ward for assessment. It was feared that the ward would be unable to offer care to all women, hence it is suggested that an outpatient assessment service might be helpful in avoiding unnecessary admissions and ensure women were cared for in the most appropriate way.
