Article Abstract:

The latest workforce survey by the RCN claim that over one-quarter of nurses have been assaulted, more than three-quarters of those working in A&E have been attacked or harassed and even more disturbingly, 40% suffered poor mental health. It is believed that nurses' capacity for understanding has in some way engendered a totally self-defeating and illogical tolerance.

The author feels that the National Health Service needs to do more to protect nurses against attacks by patients. He suggests that penalties for attacks on nurses as equally punishable as attacks on police.
