Markedly elevated levels of vascular endothelial growth factor, fibroblast growth factor, and interleukin 6 in Meigs syndrome

Article Abstract:

A patient with Meigs syndrome was found to have high blood levels of endothelial growth factor, fibroblast growth factor, and interleukin 6. Meigs syndrome is a complication of ovarian cancer that caused fluid accumulation inside the body. Removal of her tumor led to a decrease in blood levels of these substances.

Postpartum umbilical cord blood collection for transplantation: a comparison of three methods

Article Abstract:

Using a syringe to collect cord blood into a standard blood bag is the most effective method of collecting cord blood for future transplantation. The syringe is used to flush all blood out of the umbilical arteries. The method doubled the number of white blood cells collected compared to traditional methods.

Halofuginone, an inhibitor of collagen type I synthesis, prevents postoperative adhesion formation in the rat uterine horn model

Article Abstract:

Halofuginone may prevent the formation of adhesions, which is a complication of surgery. This drug inhibits collagen type I synthesis, and was shown to prevent adhesions in rats.
