May-Hegglin anomaly: a case of vaginal delivery when both mother and fetus are affected

Article Abstract:

Pregnant women with the May-Hegglin anomaly may have a normal vaginal delivery and no bleeding complications. This condition is characterized by a tendency to bleed and low blood platelet levels. Platelets are blood cells involved in blood clotting. A 31-year-old woman with a history of May-Hegglin anomaly became pregnant. Even though her platelet count was low during the vaginal delivery, she lost little blood and the baby was delivered successfully. The baby was also diagnosed with the syndrome, but did not experience any bleeding abnormalities. Normally, pregnant women with this condition have a cesarean section.
