Measurement of nutritional status using conventional anthropometry and D2O in Sarawak, Malaysia

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the effect of different methods of calculating total body water from deuterium dilution in an area characterized by high water turnover. A cross-sectional design was used. The results indicate that the back extrapolation and plateau methods produced different values for fat mass. The difference could be minimized by using saliva samples instead of urine. Back extrapolation values for body fat also correlated better with anthropometric measurements in females than in males.
