Medical marijuana: the continuing story

Article Abstract:

On May 14, 2001, the US Supreme Court ruled that it is illegal to manufacture or distribute marijuana even for medical use. Nevertheless, many doctors believe it may help patients with chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, glaucoma, and chronic pain.

Cancer chemotherapy: teaching old drugs new tricks

Article Abstract:

The pharmaceutical industry wants to modify existing cancer drugs to make them less toxic. In addition, researchers are developing drug delivery systems to deliver the drugs directly to tumors. This alone would reduce toxic side effects and make the drug more effective.

HIV vaccines: inch by inch

Article Abstract:

Researchers continue to develop and test a vaccine to prevent HIV infection. However, some public health officials believe a combined approach is needed, including behavioral change, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, and an HIV vaccine.
