Medical progress: multiple sclerosis

Article Abstract:

Multiple sclerosis remains an enigmatic disorder affecting the central nervous system in 250,000 to 350,000 patients in the United States. Recent strides made in understanding the clinical and pathological aspects of multiple sclerosis have contributed to new therapies.

Medical progress: pediatric palliative care

Article Abstract:

Palliative care is a philosophy of care that evolved from the hospice philosophy, to meet the gaps in care for seriously ill and dying patients. Palliative care is appropriate for children with a wide range of conditions, even when cure remains a distinct possibility.

Sirolimus for angiomyolipoma in tuberous sclerosis complex or lymphangioleiomyomatosis

Article Abstract:

A study to examine whether sirolimus reduces the angiomyolipoma volume in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex is conducted. Results conclude that angiomyolipoma regressed somewhat during sirolimus therapy but increased after stoppage of treatment.
