Medication error reporting: a survey of nursing staff

Article Abstract:

This article uses data from a survey on medical errors and written incident reports to investigate factors involved in the underreporting of medication errors. Medication errors are most likely to be reported when the wrong drugs or dosages are administered, but prescription and ordering errors are frequently undocumented.

Self-administered medication packet for patients experiencing a vaginal birth

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that a self-administered medication packet produces both positive and negative outcomes. In a study of women experiencing vaginal birth, self-administered medication packets yielded patient satisfaction with the consequential decrease in drug costs, but also resulted in medication errors.

This article provides an overview of a graduate program designed to help prepare advanced practice nurses to produce cost-effective and evidence-based patient outcomes. The program trains nurses to make clinical decisions by integrating critical thinking skills, scientific evidence, and clinical expertise.
