Pandemic fears hatch new methods in flu vaccine industry

Article Abstract:

Biotechnolgy companies are keen to develop faster ways to make flu vaccines, as there are warnings of an impending worldwide influenza epidemic. However, Klaus Stohr, head of the World Health Organization's Global Influenza Program states that using the current vaccine manufacturing methods, it would take six months to create a clinically tested vaccine.

Chiron flu flap suggests vaccine industry needs shot in the arm

Article Abstract:

The surprise announcement that Chiron would not be able to deliver half the US flu vaccine supply has prompted scientists to call for changes to vaccine development. The severe shortage suggests the government is not prepared to deal with an infectious pandemic and that the government has to develop long-term solutions for recurring vaccine problems.
