Mexiletine for HIV-infected patients with painful peripheral neuropathy: a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover treatment trial

Article Abstract:

Mexiletine does not appear to be effective in treating peripheral neuropathy in HIV patients. Peripheral neuropathy is an inflammation of peripheral nerves. Researchers randomly assigned 22 HIV patients to take mexiletine or a placebo for six weeks, at which time they reversed the treatment. Only one-third of the patients had less pain when taking mexiletine. Almost 40% of the patients experienced a side effect from the drug.

Multiple actions of systemic artemin in experimental neuropathy

Article Abstract:

Results point out that artemin is effective in treating neuropathic pain and produces dose- and time-related reversal of the pain. Data show higher doses do not lead to sensory or motor abnormalities. The effect of artemin is sustained for a minimum of 28 days.
