Michigan 'neutral' on suicide; Society at center of debate on physician's role shifts stance

Article Abstract:

The Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) has changed its position on physician-assisted suicide from being totally opposed to it to holding 'no position' on the issue. While the MSMS was unable to reach a clear consensus, it did agree on nine points, including the importance of educating physicians on improving their pain management techniques. The MSMS has held several statewide forums on pain control. The American Medical Assn and many other medical societies are strongly opposed to physician-assisted suicide.
