Propagating experience-based accessibility guidelines to user interface development

Article Abstract:

A methodological approach to the integration of accessibility guidelines into the user interface development life cycle is presented. Accessibility guidelines related to consolidated design wisdom in general recommendations and principles of good practice. A design repository is used with a supporting tool environment able to encapsulate, customize and reuse experience-based accessibility wisdom. The method removes some of the restrictions linked to more conventional methods, such as paper based guidelines.

Mirtazapine - a new antidepressant

Article Abstract:

The therapeutic impact of the newly approved antidepressant mirtazapine (Remeron) remains to be established. Preliminary tests of this tetracyclic piperazinoazepine, the first of its kind in the U.S., are encouraging but more studies are needed on larger groups of patients. Mirtazapine is rapidly absorbed and may be as effective as tricyclic antidepressants. Adverse drug effects include sleepiness, constipation, dizziness, and weight gain, as well as one case of severe neutropenia.

Activism as a political harbinger

Article Abstract:

An increasing number of US citizens are actively protesting about high incident rates of cancer. Many of them have had direct experience of the disease. Others have observed the pain cancer causes. It is preferable to prevent cancer through international environmental controls than to cure the disease. Cancer prevention is a human rights issue, say activists.
