Mounting student depression taxing campus mental health services

Article Abstract:

More college students may need treatment for depression at a time when colleges and universities do not have the resources to meet that need. The percentage of college students who needed mental health counseling increased from 21% in 1988-1992 to 41% in 1996-2001, according to one survey. College life coincides with the peak onset of mental health symptoms in the general population, which usually occurs between 15 and 19 years of age.

As AIDS cases increase, health experts warn against missed prevention opportunities

Article Abstract:

Doctors should ask their HIV patients about any behaviors they have that may transmit the virus to another person or cause them to become re-infected. It is especially important to ask gay and bisexual patients, because there has been a resurgence of HIV infection in this population. The number of gay and bisexual people diagnosed with HIV infection increased 18% between 1999 and 2002.
