New corn technology: scientists are all eyes and ears
Article Abstract:
Techniques to test corn for contamination by fungus are examined, focusing on how photoacoustic spectroscopy may be an improvement on the traditional method of using fluorescent light to identify diseased corn. Photoacoustic spectroscopy produces sounds that emanate from corn kernels, and the sounds for healthy kernels are different from unhealthy ones.
