New drugs offer more options for type II diabetes

Article Abstract:

American Diabetes Assn Pres Frank Vinicor said that the FDA's approval of two classes of drugs could help prevent unnecessary pain and suffering often caused by diabetes patients, at a conference on the disease. The drug approvals will allow physicians to combine drugs to make custom prescriptions for individual diabetic patients. Vinicor was pleased with the development; he feels that not enough attention has been given the prevention of the disease.

Article Abstract:

An article in the March 1997 edition of the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine raises questions about the wisdom of changing a baby boy into a girl with surgery in the case of considerable damage to the penis. An infant who underwent the procedures in the 1970s eventually determined he was born a boy and ended up having more surgeries to change back into a male.
