No primary association between LMP2 polymorphisms and extraspinal manifestations in spondyloarthropathies

Article Abstract:

There may be no association between a low molecular weight protein gene (LMP2) and peripheral arthritis and eye inflammation in patients with spondyloarthropathy, an inflammation of the spinal joints. Other research has suggested that LMP2 may be significant in patients with the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) B27 and the disease. Researchers in Germany studied 172 patients with spondyloarthropathy, 46 volunteers with HLA-B27, and 99 other volunteers. No independent relationship was found between LMP2 and the symptoms in HLA-B27 positive patients with spondyloarthropathy.

Association of gut inflammation with increased serum IgA class Klebsiella antibody concentrations in patients with axial ankylosing spondylitis (AS): implication for different aetiopathogenetic mechanisms for axial and peripheral AS?

Article Abstract:

There appears to be a link between Klebsiella pneumoniae infections and the pure spinal form of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Blood samples of 25 patients with either pure spinal AS or spinal AS with other forms of arthritis and 100 healthy blood donors were examined for antibodies against Klebsiella. Patients with pure spinal AS had more antibodies to Klebsiella than the other patient populations. Patients with gut lesions tended to have higher Klebsiella antibody levels.

Ankylosing spondylitis in monozygotic twins: studies on immunological parameters

Article Abstract:

Diminished immune responsiveness to bacterial antigens may underlie disease differences in identical twins with ankylosing spondylitis, a spinal arthritis disease. Researchers describe tests on serum samples and lymphocytes from patients with the disease.
