Noninvasive diagnosis of renal-allograft rejection by measurement of messenger RNA for perforin and granzyme B in urine

Article Abstract:

Measuring the amount of perforin and granzyme B in cells in urine samples may detect organ transplant recipients whose transplanted organ is being rejected by the patient's immune system. These two proteins are produced by T cells that destroy other cells.

Messenger RNA for FOXP3 in the urine of renal-allograft recipients

Article Abstract:

Levels of messenger RNA for FOXP3, a specification and functional factor for regulatory T lymphocytes, and mRNA for CD25, CD3E, perforin, and 18S ribosomal RNA are measured with a kinetic, quantitative polymerase-chain-reaction assay. Results reveal that measurement of FOXP3 mRNA in urine might offer a noninvasive means of improving the prediction of outcome of acute rejection of renal transplants.

HLA-mismatched renal transplantation without maintenance immunosuppression

Article Abstract:

A new approach for bone marrow and kidney transplant of a patient with renal disease with a HLA-mismatched living related donor is discussed. The transplantation is found to be extremely effective, as it leads to the discontinuation of the immunosuppressive therapy.
