Nurses' experiences of continuing education

Article Abstract:

A survey was carried out to find out how nursing practitioners feel about undertaking continuous education training courses under the PREP scheme, as required by the UKCC. Questionnaires were sent to 5000 practitioners, 25% of which were returned. Nurses and health visitors are responsible for their own training, and about 39% had had to pay the costs themselves. Results indicate that the practitioners have concerns about self-assessment, guidelines are too vague and little support is received from employers. These comments may be a reflection of the low morale withing the profession.

A model of integrated nursing care for children and adolescents

Article Abstract:

A report into the community health care provision for children found that there is a lack of coordination and communication between the different people involved and not enough training in children's nursing. Ravensbourne NHS Trust conducted a survey to find out what young people wanted and Croydon Community Health HNS Trust looked at the problems young people presented with. Both trusts developed new initiatives for providing more appropriate services.
