Occupation and breast cancer mortality in a prospective cohort of US women

Article Abstract:

Researchers examined the link between lifetime occupation and breast cancer among 563,395 women. These subjects were cancer-free in 1982, but scientists found 1,780 cases of fatal breast cancer among them after nine years. Although these results show little connection between occupation and breast cancer, an increased risk was witnessed among women with higher-paying executive jobs.

Pleural mesothelioma: dose-response relation at low levels of asbestos exposure in a French population-based case-control study

Article Abstract:

A study of the link between past occupational exposure to asbestos and pleural mesothelioma was conducted. The job histories of 405 cases and 387 controls were evaluated for possibility, intensity, and frequency of exposure to asbestos. A relation between asbestos exposure and pleural mesothelioma was found in this population.

Invited commentary: is it possible to investigate the quantitative relation between asbestos and mesothelioma in a community-based study

Article Abstract:

Maintenance and construction workers constitute the largest occupational group of asbestos-exposed workers since they remove and apply asbestos for a variety of products. Scientists have gathered enough evidence to link asbestos to illnesses that include lung and other types of cancer, lung fibrosis, and mesothelioma.
