Office-based treatment for opioid addiction achieving goals

Article Abstract:

Office-based buprenorphine treatment represents a new paradigm for treating opioid addiction and officials believe that making buprenorphine available through qualified primary care physicians and addiction specialists would attract a new group of patients. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration provides educational materials on its Web sites and offers an online mentoring program for clinicians.

Efficacy and safety of opioid agonists in the treatment of neuropathic pain of nonmalignant origin

Article Abstract:

The efficacy and safety of opioid agonists for the treatment of neuropathic pain is assessed with reference to published randomized controlled trials (RCTs). While short-term studies provide only equivocal evidence regarding the efficacy of opioids in reducing the intensity of neuropathic pain, further RCTs are needed to establish their long-term efficacy, safety, and effects on quality of life.
