Old diseases, new danger

Article Abstract:

The medical profession has not won the expected victory over communicable diseases. The World Health Organisation claims that 30 new diseases have been identified in recent years, and old diseases, such as cholera and diphtheria, have re-emerged in some areas of the world. The reasons for the modern spread of diseases include relaxation on immunisation programmes, increased world travel, and changing economic conditions favouring the development of some microbes, and exposing the vulnerability of some humans.

Pick and Mix. (the effect of skill mix on nursing)

Article Abstract:

The traditional nursing role could disappear with the introduction of multiskilling and patient-focused hospitals. Nurses should be offered more support services to alleviate their heavy workloads, rather than using multiskilling, which breaks patient care down into tasks.
