Oral health status of older rural adults in the United States

Article Abstract:

Dentists should consider opening up their practice in rural America. Data from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the National Health Interview Surveys show that elderly rural Americans are more likely than urban elderly to have lost their teeth, have no dental insurance, and have less access to a dentist. More elderly people are moving to rural areas when they retire.

Demographics and occurrence of oral and pharyngeal cancers: the outcomes, the trends, the challenge

Article Abstract:

About 30,000 Americans are diagnosed with mouth or throat cancer each year and only half will still be alive five years later. This is primarily because most patients are not diagnosed in the early stage of the disease when it is easiest to cure.
