Overall plan avoids compensation chaos as practices merge

Article Abstract:

Mergers and affiliations of physicians' practices can lead to uneven compensation levels among the staff members of the combined practices. Employees that have received different pay for comparable work will now be working alongside each other and examining how their pay compares with employees of other organizations, employees in their organization who hold different jobs, and other employees of the same organization who hold the same job. A comprehensive job evaluation and compensation plan can reduce the problems created by inequities.

Disabilities law also affects business side of practice

Article Abstract:

Medical practices can guarantee compliance with ADA injunctions by acquainting personnel managers with ADA provisions, by entrusting personnel review decisions to a managing physician, by insuring that job tasks are clearly stated, and by avoiding employment tests that place the disabled at a disadvantage. Those performing physical exams for other employers should ask for a job description and should avoid making statements about an applicant's job suitability.
