Paclitaxel-eluting versus uncoated stents in primary percutaneous coronary intervention

Article Abstract:

A study determines whether paclitaxel-eluting stents are superior to uncoated stents in the setting of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in terms of the rate of serious adverse cardiac events at 1 year. Results indicate that although the use of paclitaxel-eluting stents reduces the incidence of serious adverse cardiac events at 1 year as compared with uncoated stents, the difference is not statistically significant.

Eisenhower's billion-dollar heart attack - 50 years later

Article Abstract:

The myocardial infarctions suffered by former U.S. President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, from 1955 till his death in 1969 are recounted. The significant milestone associated with his attacks is the development of new cardiac devices and the spectacular changes brought about in the control of severe coronary syndromes from which the former president benefited, and which would ensure longer life for future presidents and citizens.

Early invasive versus selectively invasive management for acute coronary syndromes

Article Abstract:

Various patients suffering from acute coronary syndrome without ST-segment elevation and a raised cardiac troponin T level were randomly subjected to early invasive strategy or to a selectively invasive strategy. Results indicated that on the basis of optimized medical treatment, it could not be determined whether early invasive strategy excelled selective invasive strategy in such patients.
