Parting shots

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom health and safety experts feel they are not involved with setting the agenda for discussions on the subject, within the European Union (EU). The United Kingdom Minister for Health and Safety Angela Eagle confirmed it would be difficult for the UK to to fulfill all the work necessary to get health and safety standards adopted in Europe. More work needs to be initiated to help in the promotion of health and safety matters, in the EU. Some health and safety experts are concerned the future plans for health and safety have not been defined, particularly when the EU enlarges.

However most managers acknowledge the importance of being seen to care for their employees, and the HSC/E has introduced several initiatives to promote more understanding of the costs of accidents and occupational ill-health.
