Paying for drug approvals: Who's using whom?

Article Abstract:

Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) is to come up for renewal in 2007 under which pharmaceutical companies pay fee to assess their drug application, which is used to pay salaries of the U.S. Food, and Drug Administration (FDA) agency scientists who review their drugs. The consequence of PDUFA, which was enacted to overcome fund shortage of FDA, is that their scientists feel that they are accountable to the pharmaceutical companies whom they actually suppose to regulate.

Improving health care for the lesbian and gay communities

Article Abstract:

A little formal education is present about sexual minority groups included in medical training, as a result of which, knowledgeable providers are often uninformed about basic issues that are essential to providing high-quality care to this population. Individual clinicians can adapt their own practices, and can work with medical schools and professional organizations to incorporate more information, at all educational levels, about the care of this population.
