Persistence of nevirapine exposure during the postpartum period after intrapartum single-dose nevirapine in addition to zidovudine prophylaxis for the prevention of mother-child transmission of HIV-1

Article Abstract:

Nevirapine (NVP) plasma levels during the postpartum period after a single intrapartum NVP dose for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission is determined. Plasma NVP concentrations around the IC(super 50) might persist in some women for as long as 4 weeks after administration of single intrapartum NVP doses.

Comparison of mother-to-child transmission rates in Ugandan women with subtype A versus D HIV-1 who received single-dose nevirapine prophylaxis: HIV network for prevention trails 012

Article Abstract:

The comparison in the rates of HIV-1 mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) in Ugandan women in subtype A versus D HIV-1 who received single-dose nevirapine (NVP) is presented. Results reveal no significant difference in the rate of MTCT in women with subtype A versus D.
