Persistent urogenital sinus: prenatal diagnosis and pregnancy complications

Article Abstract:

Urogenital sinus leading to a dilated vagina and distended fetal abdomen may make the abdomen difficult to deliver. Urogenital sinus results when the developing embryo's urogenital fold does not divide properly into rectal and urogenital areas. Ultrasound examinations of the fetus of a 32-year-old woman revealed a mass in the fetal abdomen, fluid in both kidneys, and an enlarged abdomen. Labor was induced at 32 weeks of pregnancy, and a baby girl was delivered. Delivery of the enlarged abdomen was difficult. Early delivery of such infants may facilitate surgical repair of abnormalities.

Diagnostic accuracy of noninvasive fetal Rh genotyping from maternal blood--A meta-analysis

Article Abstract:

The diagnostic accuracy, the validity and the existing limitations of fetal RhD genotyping from peripheral maternal blood is determined by a meta-analysis, based on the existing studies. The diagnostic accuracy of noninvasive fetal Rh determination using maternal peripheral blood is 94.8 percent, the use of which can be applicable to Rh prophylaxis and to the management of Rh alloimmunized pregnancies.

The clinical utility of fetal cell sorting to determine prenatally fetal E/e or e/e Rh genotype from peripheral maternal blood

Article Abstract:

Researchers describe the successful use of fetal blood cells circulating in the blood of 18 pregnant woman to determine the baby's Rh status. These fetal cells can be isolated from the mother's blood and used as a non-invasive form of prenatal diagnosis.
