Article Abstract:

New control measures were introduced into a hospital after an outbreak of a diarrhoea and vomiting infection occurred in a maternity ward. 93 people, including staff, mothers and babies, were infected. All mothers were subsequently given a leaflet to warn them of potential hazards related to the outbreak. It is crucial that the measures a hospital takes to prevent and control infection are stringent and adhered to. One possible outcome of such an outbreak is a severe shortage of staff which may jeopardise patient health.

Internal delivery

Article Abstract:

Types of infusion devices available include volumetric controllers, drip-rate controllers, drip-rate pumps, volumetric pumps and syringe pumps. Flow-rate accuracy is the prime consideration of pump performance. Effective occlusion alarms can be more important than infusion rate accuracy in some clinical situations. The UK Dept of Health has introduced classifications for infusion devices, such as 'high risk' and 'neonatal' to specify the sophistication required in certain clinical environments.
