Plasma endothelin-1 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha concentrations in pregnant and cyclic rats after low-dose endotoxin infusion

Article Abstract:

Endothelin-1 levels appear to positively respond to endotoxin stimulation in pregnant rats. Endotoxin stimulation in rats is a model for human preeclampsia. Endothelin-1 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha blood levels were measured in 10 pregnant rats and 10 sexually inactive rats (the control group) after either endotoxin or placebo stimulation. There was a temporary increase in endothelin-1 levels in pregnant rats but not in the control group after endotoxin stimulation. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha levels increased similarly in both groups in response to endotoxin stimulation.

Cyclooxygenase is involved in the effects of progesterone-induced blocking factor on the production of interleukin 12

Article Abstract:

Progesterone-induced blocking factor helps maintain pregnancy by inhibiting the synthesis of interleukin-12, which in turn suppresses natural killer cell activity. Progesterone-induced blocking factor is produced by lymphocytes in the presence of progesterone.

Soluble HLA-G circulates in maternal blood during pregnancy

Article Abstract:

The HLA-G protein produced by the placenta circulates in the blood of pregnant women. This could partly explain why a woman's immune system does not reject the fetus. HLA-G is one of the human leukocyte antigens.
