Premature coronary-artery atherosclerosis in systemic lupus erythematosus

Article Abstract:

People with systemic lupus erythematosus have an increased risk of developing coronary artery disease, according to a study of 65 lupus patients and 69 healthy volunteers. Electron beam CT scans identified calcification in the coronary arteries of one-third of the lupus patients but only 10% of the healthy group. Lupus patients also had more extensive calcification than the other study participants.

The intrinsic factor-vitamin B(sub.12) receptor, cubilin, is a high-affinity apolipoprotein A-I receptor facilitating endocytosis of high-density lipoprotein

Article Abstract:

Cubilin has been found to be a high-affinity apolipoprotein A-I receptor that facilitates endocytosis of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). It is the intestinal intrinsic factor-vitamin B(sub.12) receptor, but may have other jobs, as witness high expression in kidney and yolk sac. Apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I),the main protein of HDL, was isolated using cubilin affinity chromatography.
