Article Abstract:

The introduction of user-led primary health and care services have allowed service providers to have a greater level of understanding in the area of response and user confidence. Community nursing and school nurses should be encouraged to see their roles as combined to benefit the community through support, monitoring and medical expertise. A greater emphasis should be placed on meeting the changing needs of community, not holding on to a past which no longer exists.

Article Abstract:

The role of management at Eastbourne District Hospital, UK, has come under question after the disclosure of acute nursing staff shortages and an autocratic hospital manager may have contributed to the deaths of two patients. An inquiry into the two deaths highlighted a severe nursing shortage on the wards and a total lack of support from management. The hospital was fiercely criticised by the local paper which ran several damming stories.
