Preparing for change?

Article Abstract:

The Nursing Times has conducted a survey of occupational health departments to assess present lifting policies and investigate preparations for implementing European community regulations. Only 115 out of 409 departments responded to a questionnaire. The survey found that most nurses were unwilling to use hoists. Only 10% of nurses received training in lifting. Nearly all departments were preparing to meet new regulations but only 15% had received extra finance. Only 50% had assessed needs and 50% anticipated difficulty with equipment provision.

Satisfied customers: a new system for dealing with patients' complaints is due to start at the beginning of next month. Not all nurses are ready for the change

Article Abstract:

A new way of dealing with patients' complaints calls on nurses to play an important part in its implementation. Time for a change of agenda

Article Abstract:

The new agenda shows a change of over more than a million health care staff, promising the nurses a fairer pay, standardized conditions of service and better links between pay and career progression. Such a radical shake-up of health service pay and conditions in the history of the NHS outlines a new deal that should be good news for most nurses.
