Prostaglandin F(sub 2alpha)-induced Ca++ oscillations in human myometrial cells and the rolde of RU 486

Article Abstract:

Prostaglandin F(sub 2alpha) releases calcium from calcium stores inside uterine cells and also stimulates the entry of calcium from outside the cell. Prostaglandins are involved in preparing the uterus and cervix for labor.

Presence and localization of connexins 43 and 26 in cell cultures derived from myometrial tissues from nonpregnant and pregnant women and from leiomyomas

Article Abstract:

Connexins 26 and 43 occur in uterine tissues, even in non-pregnant women and women with a uterine tumor called a leiomyoma. Connexins are proteins that are part of the gap junction between cells.

Ineffectiveness of oxytocin on intercellular communication between term pregnant human myometrial cells before labor

Article Abstract:

Oxytocin does not appear to promote cell-to-cell communication in the uterus during labor. Oxytocin is used to induce labor. During labor, strong uterine contractions rely on synchronicity among all cells. Thus, the cells must communicate with each other. Researchers analyzed the effect of oxytocin on various characteristics of uterine cell membranes. Oxytocin depolarized the membranes but did not promote cell-to-cell communication.
