Prevalence of parental death among young people in South Africa and risk for HIV infection

Article Abstract:

The prevalence and sociodemographic characteristics of young people in South Africa who have experienced parental death are estimated and the associations between parental death and young people's HIV status and sexual behaviors are examined. The analysis has shown that the death of a parent is associated with young female and male South Africans' HIV status and the sexual behaviors among young female and male South Africans.

Using social identity to explore the link between a decline in adolescent smoking and an increase in mobile phone use

Article Abstract:

A study examining the inverse relationship between increased use in mobile phones and its ownership and adolescent smoking, is presented. Mobile ownership in the context of the study is looked at from the perspective of social identity.
