Preventing complications of central venous catheterization

Article Abstract:

Two doctors provide detailed information for preventing complications in patients who have an intravenous catheter. Topics include types of catheters, insertion sites, insertion technique, insertion site maintenance, catheter maintenance, and suspected catheter-related bloodstream infection. An algorithm is included to help doctors and nurses treat catheter-related bloodstream infections.

Genetic susceptibility to venous thrombosis

Article Abstract:

The prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the hereditary susceptibility for venous thrombosis is reviewed. Topics include gene mutations responsible for hits susceptibility, clinical features, thrombosis during pregnancy, oral contraceptives, and hormone replacement therapy. Venous thrombosis occurs when abnormal blood clotting occurs in veins.

Treatment of deep-vein thrombosis

A case study of a 52-year-old woman with discomfort in her left calf reveals proximal deep-vein thrombosis. Clinical tests like venography and compression ultrasonography are used to diagnose deep-vein thrombosis.
