Primary immunodeficiency diseases in adults

Article Abstract:

Common variable immunodeficiency is an immune disorder of unknown cause in which immunoglobulin levels are low and antibody function is reduced. Patients are more susceptible to infections, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory disorders and cancer, and are treated with regular immunoglobulin injections. The case of a 35-year-old woman illustrates the condition. Other primary immunodeficiency diseases, in which immunologic impairment is not the result of infection, cancer or other condition, include X-linked agammaglobulinemia and Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome.

Association of the cyclin D1 A870G polymorphism with advanced colorectal cancer

Article Abstract:

A gene variation called cyclin D1 A870G appears to be linked to colorectal cancer, according to a study of 1,128 people. The cyclin D1 protein regulates the cell cycle. Increased amounts of the protein cause cell proliferation, which can cause cancer. Cancer patients with the A870G gene may have a worse prognosis than other cancer patients.
