Primary repair of obstetric anal sphincter laceration: A randomized trial of two surgical techniques

Article Abstract:

Surgical techniques for the primary repair of obstetric and sphincter lacerations are compared. The results reveal no difference in anal incontinence symptoms, physical examination, or translabial ultrasonography findings between the 2 groups.

Vasopressin as an etiologic factor for infection in gynecologic surgery: a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial

Article Abstract:

Vasopressin does not increase the risk of infection when it is used to reduce bleeding after a hysterectomy, according to a study of 117 women. Vasopressin constricts blood vessels and is also used to stop bleeding from esophageal varices.

A prospective cohort study of women after primary repair of obstetric anal sphincter laceration

Article Abstract:

It may be difficult to surgically repair a laceration of the anal sphincter that occurs during childbirth. In a study of 15 such women, 40% continued to have fecal incontinence despite surgery.
