Prosorba column for rheumatoid arthritis

Article Abstract:

The FDA has approved Prosorba, which is an antibody-absorbing column used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. When blood is passed through the column during a technique called plasmapheresis, the column removes immune complexes in the blood. Studies have shown it to be effective in some patients with rheumatoid arthritis, but it is expensive. Little is known about its safety or how often patients would need treatment.
