Public health and aging: retention of natural teeth among older adults--United States, 2002

Article Abstract:

The percentage of older Americans who still have most of their natural teeth has increased substantially since the 1950s. A 2002 survey of 48,866 Americans found that more than half the populations of 26 states had most of their natural teeth. The percentage ranged from 60% or more in California, Utah, and Colorado, to less than 40% in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Mississippi.

Influence of controllable lifestyle on recent trends in specialty choice by US medical students

Article Abstract:

More and more medical students are opting for a controllable lifestyle when they choose their specialty. They want to work fewer hours and fewer nights on call so they can pursue leisure activities and spend time with their family. This desire for a controllable lifestyle accounts for 55% of the change in specialty choices between 1996 and 2002.

Public health and aging: trends in aging -- United States and worldwide

Article Abstract:

The percentage of people who are 65 years old and older will increase from 7% of the world's population in 2000 to 12% by the year 2030. This is primarily caused by a decrease in birth rates and an increase in longevity. The impact of the aging population will be much greater in developing countries than in developed countries.
