Amyloids: tombstones or triggers?

Article Abstract:

Research shows that amyloidosis may be treated with receptors for advanaced glycation endproducts, or RAGE, blockades in order to reduce protein buildup. Issues discussed include the causes of amyloid deposits, whether they are inert or active and what their effects may be in cases of amyloidosis.

Receptor-dependent cell stress and amyloid accumulation in systematic amyloidosis

Article Abstract:

Research on the causes of amyloidosis are presented as being an accumulation of fibrils made up of amyloid A in tissues, causing cellular dysfunction. Issues discussed include receptor for advanced glycation end-products, or RAGE, expression; immunoglobulin superfamily cell surfaces; receptors as a cellular target for amyloid proteins deposits; RAGE blockades; prion-derived peptides and their structural relations to amyloid fibrils; and the cellular responses to amyloid tissues in various diseases.

Nimble progenitors rescue vascular grafts

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the obtained from peripheral blood endothelial progenitor cells. Results indicate that these cells provide a cell source for lining vascular grafts.
