Reinventing the commute: drive time can be prime time when you make the most of the miles between home and office

Article Abstract:

Physicians who spend time commuting between home and office need to keep in touch with their offices by telephone, but they should exercise care. Materials for note taking should be on hand for use when traffic is standing still. Audio tapes, either entertaining or educational, can contribute to profitable use of commuting time. Relaxation can also be achieved if the commuter wishes to experiment with methods of reducing tension, such as by bicycling to the office, or riding the ferry, or by taking alternate routes.

Counseling on prescriptions

Article Abstract:

The Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) drug prescription information plan is a public-private and voluntary initiative designed to give patients more information about their prescription medications. The HHS plan mandates that 75% of patients must receive "useful" written information about their prescriptions by the year; failing that, the Food and Drug Administration will impose regulations to increase the dissemination of prescription information. The American Medical Association opposes the plan.

Time to test-drive the info-highway

Article Abstract:

The internet can supply physicians with medical information including research data, journal articles, clinical trial information, and the opportunity to consult with experts. New personal computers can cost as little as $1,000-$2,000, and a modem costs about $200. Physicians also need an internet provider service and the names of some useful internet sites. The use of gateways, online journals, and places to look for a job are discussed.
