Relationship of blood pressure, heart rate and behavioral mood state to norepinephrine kinetics in younger and older men following caffeine ingestion

Article Abstract:

A new study investigates the age-related effects of caffeine on the heart rate, blood pressure and behavioral mood of a group of older and younger men. It is shown that, after caffeine ingestion, plasma caffeine levels of older and younger men were similar, but there was a significant increase in the blood pressure of older men, while feelings of tension increased in younger men and decreased in older men. It is concluded elderly men may react more to the pressor and less to the drug's subjective effects and that blood pressure response may also be age-related.

Control of bias in dietary trial to prevent coronary recurrences: the Lyon diet heart study

Article Abstract:

Techniques used to detect biases in the results of the Lyon diet heart study are discussed. The Lyon diet heart study is a single-blind secondary prevention trial which found that a Mediterranean-type diet reduced the risk of cardiac events by 73%. It is shown that although minor biases cannot be prevented in the study, the decrease in cardiac events is due to the dietary modification rather than the participation in the study.
